Fils du célèbre pilote Ulf qui domina les années 70 en FINLANDE, Marcus avait de qui tenir. Son père décédé tragiquement, il avait dans ses gênes l'esprit de compétition, et c'est à l'age de 13 ans qu'il débuta en motocross. Las, une vilaine blessure le poussa à débuter su 4 roues, en1988 à l'age de 20 ans il décrochait son premier titre en FINLANDE "CHAMPIONNAT JUNIOR". En 91, il est sacré "CHAMPION DE FINLANDE GRN", suivi par 4 titres de champion dans son pays, et c'est très logiquement qu'il fut repéré par Ove ANDERSSON du TOYOTA TEAM EUROPE. Il excella et prouva qu'il pouvait être rapide partout, et pas seulement dans son jardin. PEUGEOT lui mit le grapin dessus, et c'est au volant de la 206WRC qu'il obtint ses 2 titres de CHAMPION DU MONDE. PEUGEOT remplaça la 206 par la 307, et cette voiture ne lui convenait pas vraiment (ou son rival SEB?). Il change de monture en2006 pour rejoindre FORD. Il reprend du moral, et même si le titre semble lui echapper cette année au profit de Sébastien , pour sur qu'on le verra "gonflé à bloc" pour 2007 quand sa monture sera vraiment au point. Son fidèle copilote n'est autre que son beau-frère, Timo RAUTIAINEN.
En 2006, il échoue à 1 point de LOEB. Suite à l'accident de VTT de celui-ci, il avait page blanche pour remporter les 4 derniers rallyes. Las, une erreur lors de l'AUSTRALIE a contrecarré le projet. FORD se rassurera en remportant le championnat "CONSTRUCTEURS"
Ce pilote émmérite a une vitesse de pointe extraordinaire....voir le tableau ci-dessous!
-Prendra une semi-retraite fin 2007, après une fantastique lutte avec Seb LOEB. Ah, s’il n’y avait pas eu ce dernier, pour sur que les titres se seraient amoncellés.

Son fils, excellent également a pris la relève …

CLASSEMENT MONDIAL : 3°/4151, derrière les 2 sébastien (1° FINLANDAIS ce qui n’est pas peu dire), surface préférée : la neige et la terre (surtout quand c’est très rapide, un vrai funambule !). EPREUVE FAVORITE ? la FINLANDE of course suivie de la SUEDE et de la ZELANDE. VOITURE PREFEREE : la 206 (alors bizaremment, celle qu’il aimait le moins était la 307…13.83/20 (3 étoiles) : une excellente note en fiabilité, et quand on voit sa pointe de vitesse, c’est véritablement un exploit…

Driver of the day: MARCUS GRONHOLM (1987/2019)

Son of the famous driver Ulf who dominated the 70s in FINLAND, Marcus had who to take after. His father died tragically, he had the competitive spirit in his genes, and it was at the age of 13 that he started in motocross. Alas, a nasty injury pushed him to start on 4 wheels, in 1988 at the age of 20 he won his first title in FINLAND "JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP". In 91, he was crowned "FINNISH GRN CHAMPION", followed by 4 championship titles in his country, and it was very logical that he was spotted by Ove ANDERSSON of TOYOTA TEAM EUROPE. He excelled and proved that he could be fast everywhere, and not just in his own backyard. PEUGEOT got their hands on him, and it was at the wheel of the 206WRC that he obtained his 2 WORLD CHAMPION titles. PEUGEOT replaced the 206 with the 307, and this car did not really suit him (or his rival SEB?). He changed his car in 2006 to join FORD. He regained his morale, and even if the title seemed to escape him this year in favor of Sébastien, we will definitely see him "pumped up" for 2007 when his car is really ready. His faithful co-driver is none other than his brother-in-law, Timo RAUTIAINEN.

In 2006, he failed to win by 1 point from LOEB. Following the latter's mountain bike accident, he had a blank page to win the last 4 rallies. Alas, an error during AUSTRALIA thwarted the project. FORD will reassure itself by winning the "CONSTRUCTORS" championship

This distinguished driver has an extraordinary top speed....see the table below!

- Will take semi-retirement at the end of 2007, after a fantastic fight with Seb LOEB. Ah, if it hadn't been for the latter, the titles would have piled up for sure. His son, also excellent, took over...

WORLD RANKING: 3rd/4151, behind the 2 Sébastiens (1st FINNISH which is saying something), favorite surface: snow and earth (especially when it's very fast, a real tightrope walker!). FAVORITE EVENT? FINLAND of course followed by SWEDEN and ZEALAND. FAVORITE CAR: the 206 (so strangely, the one he liked the least was the 307…13.83/20 (3 stars): an excellent score for reliability, and when you see its top speed, it’s truly an exploit…
